CANADA SECURE 3 OLYMPIC SPOTS FOR 2012 LONDON!

Momentum from a strong finish in men's +80kg carried over to the final day of competition at the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier with Canada securing two more spots for the 2012 Olympic Games. Competing today were men’s -80kg, women’s -67kg and women’s +67kg divisions. Taking to the ring were Sebastien Michaud (-80kg) and Karine Sergerie (-67kg).

Michaud won his first fight and then met Steven Lopez of the USA in his second match of the day. Unfortunately results did not favor Michaud, falling 3-0. He then dominated his final match, winning 5-1 against Carlos Vasquez of Venezuela. This secured an Olympic spot for Canada.

Sergerie then qualified the third spot for Canada defeating Katherine Alvarado of Costa Rica 9-4. She went onto win her final match 7-5, finishing in first place in the division.

Canada finished the tournament qualifying spots in women’s -67kg, men’s -80kg and men’s +80kg.

The Pan Am Olympic Qualification tournament took place from November 18-20 at the Queretaro Centro De Congresos in Queretaro, Mexico. The 2012 Summer Olympic Games will take place July 27-August 12, 2012 in London, UK.

2011 International Taekwondo Festival

The International Taekwondo Festival is the only tournament with a TEAM MATCH competition with cash prizes and the ultimate prize of the free Korea trip.

This event is open for black belts in Junior and Senior division only.

Tournament director Grandmaster Cheon developed this idea from his experience as a young athlete in Korea competing with different clubs/universities. Athletes may form teams with members from different dojangs/schools. The Team Match competition creates excitement, school spirit and team camaraderie!

The winners in the Senior men and women team match competition will win an all-expense paid trip to Korea! The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea sponsors this event to promote Taekwondo and Korea for our winners. Teams in the past who won received a priceless experience visiting Korea! Teams were able to visit historical Korean sites, learn about Korean culture, eat delicious cuisine and train at infamous Yongin University and compete at The Korea Open Championship and more!

Team Match competition was held on Friday, May 20th.

ins. Cecilia and Melissa Pagnotta are previous national team member. With two other outstanding athlete from Master Tae-Hwa Son in Ontario

Master Chanwoo Lee has formed the Canadian Women's Team

the Team had tough matches against Jessie Bates, USA Junior World champion

however, at the end Team Canada won the trip to KOREA which is to be held in JULY

this trip to Korea includes the participation at CHUN CHUNG TAEKWONDO OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
